New Mercedes-AMG CLE 53 Cabriolet Unveiled for the Summer… of 2025

Published on May 6, 2024 in News by Guillaume Rivard

Following the Coupe, the new Mercedes-Benz AMG CLE 53 Cabriolet unveiled today is a more powerful and sportier version of the CLE Cabriolet. It will arrive in Canadian dealerships as a 2025 model, but not for this summer. Instead, customers will have to wait until next year.

Unique to the convertible are technologies like the Aircap wind deflector at the top of the windshield and the Airscarf system blowing warm air at neck level to make open-top driving more comfortable in cool weather. Available in black, red or grey, the multi-layered, power-operated soft top opens or closes in 20 seconds at speeds up to 60 km/h.

When the soft top is folded and stowed away, an electric divider separates it from the rest of the trunk, where 295 litres of cargo space are available. With the top up, total cargo room is 385 litres, Mercedes-Benz says. Oh, and the 60/40 split-folding rear seats enable more versatility.

Naturally, special reinforcement of the bodyshell structures provides a high level of rigidity and safety, even without a fixed roof. This includes rigid A-pillars and a system behind the rear seats that serves as rollover protection. There are 11 airbags, one of which is a new centre airbag between the driver and front passenger.

The AMG model visually stands out from the standard CLE Cabriolet with an AMG grille, larger front air intakes, wider tracks and vertical air scoops on the front fenders. The 19-inch wheels provide an aggressive appearance, but optional 20-inch wheels can also be fitted.

Inside, sports seats with integrated headrests are covered in ARTICO leatherette/microfiber upholstery. They can be replaced by AMG Performance seats featuring even more pronounced bolsters. Meanwhile, red contrast stitching and AMG-specific graphics emphasize the sporty look.

Up to 443 Horsepower

The Mercedes-Benz AMG CLE 53 Cabriolet is properly motivated thanks to a comprehensively upgraded, turbocharged 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder engine. A new exhaust gas turbocharger offers an increased boost pressure of 22 psi (previously 16 psi) to produce 413 lb-ft of torque or 443 lb-ft with Overboost for up to 10 seconds. Output is rated at 443 horsepower.

As a result: the car accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 4.4 seconds. Selecting the AMG Dynamic Plus Package shaves two tenths of a second off that time while also boosting top speed from 250 km/h to 270 km/h.

A nine-speed AMG Speedshift transmission and rear-biased yet fully variable AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive system complete the powertrain. Five different drive modes can be selected including Slippery, Comfort, Sport, Sport+ and Individual. On top of that, the AMG Ride Control suspension offers Comfort, Sport and Sport+ modes.

Pricing for the 2025 Mercedes-Benz AMG CLE 53 Cabriolet will be announced closer to launch next year.
